Version 3.5 - Nov. 14, 1995
• Supports drag and drop deletion of items in any program that "promises" files/folders, such as Apple's Find File application or Peter N Lewis' Anarchie program. Actually, this works with any program that allows stuff to be dragged to the Finder's trash can, but some editors such as SimpleText need to be modified to get this to work. See the file entitled "Only for the brave..." for information on how to hack these programs.
• Allows the display of a large trash can icon (under Desktop/Extensions Strip.)
• Dragging many files/folders over Trash It! will delete them faster than ever before.
• Extensions Strip savvy. This means that when your module host is ES:
- The droppable and clickable area is the total module area taken up on the strip. (Under other module hosts, the drag/click must be directly over the icon, and cannot be in the boundaries of the module, since there is no way to calculate this area.)
- No idle time is used. (All modules open by other module hosts, that strictly follow the Control Strip API, eat idle time.)
• File size is about 1400 bytes smaller, because 8-bit icons aren't really needed.
Version 3.0 - June 25, 1995
• When you drag and drop a volume into Trash It!, a dialog will appear allowing you to reset the desktop, erase the volume, or cancel.
• If you hold down the mouse button while clicking on Trash It's icon, or click and quickly move the mouse outside of Trash It's icon box, a popup menu will appear with Trash It's settings:
- Warn before any deletion process starts
- Warn before deleting each busy file
• All of these warnings will be ignored if you hold down the option key. If you drag a volume onto Trash It! while holding down the option key, it will proceed to erase everything on the volume. Special thanks to Oumar Ka for reminding me to add this.
• Completely rewrote the deletion code to include the following features:
- Will now delete folders that the Finder says contain busy items even though the directory is empty. This annoying situation occurs when a program forgets to close one of its working directories. Now you don't have to reboot in order to delete it!
- Will delete busy files that have multiple open reference numbers instead of just one. For example, deleting an open SimpleText document like the one you're reading will now work.
- The trash residing on remote volumes is now deleted.
• Trash It! runs its command-period checks more often so the cancellation response is faster.
Version 2.0 - May 26, 1995
• Deletes all the files/folders in the trash manually, so you don't get the Finder's various warnings.
• Allows drag and drop deletion of files/folders.
• Files that were left open (ie. busy files) can also be deleted!
Version 1.0 - Nov. 1994
• Initial release. All this module did was send an "empty trash" event to the Finder.

Description:
Trash It! is a control strip module that loves to delete things quickly through its optimized deletion routines. A special feature of Trash It! is that it can delete busy files/folders that the Finder chokes on when emptying the trash. When Trash It's icon is clicked upon, all the items in the trash get deleted, no matter what. It also deletes files/folders/volumes that are dropped on its icon. When a volume (ex. hard disk, floppy) is dropped, a dialog appears allowing you to either reset the desktop, erase everything on the the volume, or cancel.
Feature summary:
• Whatever I put here would just be repeating what's in the version history.
• Remember that to configure Trash It's settings, click on its icon and hold down the mouse.
Notes:
• I've been asked to convert Trash It! into a drag-n-drop application. This would not be a good idea because aliases get automatically resolved so, for instance, if you want to delete an alias to your System Folder, the whole folder will get deleted. Trash It! does not ever resolve aliases, so WYSIWYD "what you see is what you delete".
• Deleting busy files that you know should be busy, can be a bad thing. Do not directly delete fonts out of the fonts folder, and do not delete the active Finder or System file!
• Deleting busy files can be very fun though! Try this: make a new folder on your desktop. Copy SimpleText into the folder. Launch this SimpleText. Now delete the folder. SimpleText will "quit" but stay in the program menu. Now switch to SimpleText and force quit it (by pressing command-option-escape.) You will notice that SimpleText will instantly quit. Weird, wild stuff huh.
• Due to a rare bug in the file system, sometimes a folder cannot be deleted at all. If you have encountered this problem, it can be fixed by creating a folder somewhere else on the hard disk with the same name, and then dragging it to where the stubborn folder resides.
• Distribution:
Trash It! may be distributed freely, but it must remain in its unmodified entirety. It can be put on disks and CD-ROMs that charge a reasonable fee for the cost of distributing it. I would appreciate a copy each of any such disks or CD-ROMs so that I know what it is being distributed on, but it is not a necessity. Thank you.
